Requirements - Students with a
strong background in chemical engineering or
related field are encouraged to apply.
Students are generally required to have 3.0 GPA
on a 4.0 Scale with most applicants having a GPA
above 3.5.
All foreign students must take the GRE
(Graduate Records Exam) General Test and an
English Proficiency Exam, usually TOEFL, if
English is not their native tongue.
Our most competitive applicants have a GPA of 3.6/4.0, 88/100 or First Class with Honor or Distinction, and GRE scores of Verbal = 560 (75%), Quantitative = 730 (75%), and Analytical Writing = 4.0. The minimum TOEFL scores required are TOEFL = 240 (computer based) or 600 (written based test) and TWE = 4.0, or 100 (iBT = Internet based TOEFL)
In general, we usually only admit students into our Ph.D-degree program. We do not offer funding to Master's degree students. We do offer funding to our Ph.D. students. This includes full payment of tuition and research costs, 85% of health insurance premiums, and a competitive monthly stipend.
We do occasionally admit students who have undergraduate degrees in subjects other than chemical engineering. However, these students will need to take make-up course work to succeed in our graduate program. These students must take the following undergraduate courses or have equivalent coursework in the following subject areas:
- Thermodynamics: ChBE 509
- Transport Phenomena (Momentum and Mass Transfers): ChBE 520, ChBE 522
- Chemical Engineering Kinetics: ChBE 610
- Engineering Mathematics (Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations): Math 255 or 415 or equivalent
