Autumn Activities '01

OSU Homecoming Parade, October 13th

The Annual Homecoming Parade is one of Ohio State University's biggest traditions. This year, the Homecoming Parade will take place on Saturday, October 13th at 10:00am. The theme will be "There's no place like Homecoming...", which shows how proud we are to be buckeyes. The parade route will begin on Neil and Woodruff going east to High Street - then go South past The Wexner Center for the Arts and the Ohio Union. High Street is a perfect location to enjoy all the entries in the parade. This year AIChE is planning on being part of the parade, so if you are interested in helping build our AIChE float please contact Jennifer Adams our Vice President for all the details.

AIChE National Conference,  Nov. 3rd - 5th

Student Conference logoThis year the AIChE annual student conference will be held on November 3rd - 5th in the Reno Hilton in Reno, Nevada. The event will be hosted by the University of Nevada, Reno, & Oregon State University AIChE Student Chapters. Highlights of this event include the Chem-E-Car Competition, Student Poster Paper Competition, and the National Student Paper Competition. Registration fees for AIChE members start at $35 and $65 for non-members. Also our Chemical Engineering Department has generously offered to cover part of the cost of this trip. Please contact Nihar Patel our treasurer to sign up.

Scarlet and Grey Tailgates

This Fall AIChE would like to invite you to its annual Scarlet and Gray Tailgates. So students, staff, faculty and alumni come and cheer on your Buckeyes as the crush the Big Ten Conference. The tailgates will be held in our faithful Koffolt Building, by the red door on Woodruff Avenue. Please check our calendar to find out the more about the tailgates.

Industry Meetings

Cargill, Dupont, P&G, and Dow Chemical are just some of the big names of companies that will hold info sessions with AIChE. So if your interested in finding out about whether a company is for you or not, then come along and listen to what these company reps have to say over some pizza and pop. Please check the calendar frequently to get the latest updates on company info sessions.

Fall Intramurals

AIChE will be sponsoring two teams for this fall, the first team will be an all men's flag football team, and the second will be a coed sand volleyball team. To sign up for these teams please contact our intramural coordinator Andy Loth. Also our service project for this quarter will be to try and raise as many volunteers for the "Beat Michigan Blood Drive". To sign up please email Christine Reinhold

 

Winter Activities '02

AIChE Regional Conference  Feb. 7th - 9th

This year our Regional AIChE conference will be held in at at our hated rivals lair, U of M. The conference main highlight will be the Chem-E Car race where we our Chem-E Car Team will be trying there new Aluminum Fuel Cell Car developed right here in our own building. The rest of the conference itinerary seem rather bland, no surprise their, but I promise that our buckeye spirit will surely spice up the event. National Engineers Week  Feb. 17th - 23rd

National Engineers Week is an annual tradition which is celebrated by thousands. Our theme for this  will be "introduce a child to engineering". Our two main projects will be OSU Science Day and The Pringles Mailing Competition. Details about OSU Science Day can be found in the next activity description. The Pringles Mailing Competition is  mainly a competition between a few local elementary schools that hopes to charge up the interest of children in engineering. OSU Science Day

OSU Science Day is our most important philanthropy project of the year. Each year we invite a selected number of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to our Chemical Engineering Building. Where they participate in a one day workshop to earn their Engineering Merit Badge and their Chemistry Merit Badge. The day is filled with interactive experiments, lab tours, and learning sessions that aim to spark these young students interest in the world of Engineering. Structuring your Job Search (AIChE Workshop)

AIChE would like to invite you to attend it annual career workshop. Our host speaker is the Director of Career Services at the college of Engineering Mrs. Rosemary Hill. The Workshop will be focused towards chemical engineers and is a great chance for you to get a head start on getting a job. Note Sophomores and Juniors this workshop is directed mainly towards you.

Grad School Talk (AIChE Workshop)

Ever asked yourself the Question. Is Grad school or Industry better for me?? Well here's something that might help, Dr. Rathman our distinguished Associate Professor can give you an inside look. He has both experienced an industrial job and is currently a professor. So come along and feel free to ask him all the questions you can think of. Like do we really need to know what fugacity is??  

Winter Intramurals

Its winter again, and that means Basketball Intramurals. AIChE is sponsoring an all men's team in Basketball, and a coed team in Basketball. Thanks to our New Intramural Coordinator Andy Loth who is captain of both teams. So if your ready to show your skills on the court contact Andy Loth for further information.

 

Spring Activities '02

Student Awards Night AIChE-COS  April 9th

The annual awards will be presented to the most outstanding chemical engineering student of Ohio University and The Ohio State University. The OSU award will be presented to Rick Wentling. Rick is our current Events Coordinator, and is also the president of Chem-E Car team. The Chem-E Car team has been a great source of pride for our chapter in their first year only the team has come in 4th place in the regional competition and places 6th in the national competition. Congratulations Rick. 

Ohio Science Olympiad  April 20th

AIChE annually judges the experimental design competition in The Ohio Science Olympiad. The Science Olympiad created in 1983 hosts a series of individual and team events that are academic interscholastic competitions. The goal is to improve the quality of science education, and increase student interest in science. The AIChE Science Olympiad Coordinator is Jennifer Adams. Please contact her to volunteer for this event.

Engineers Week  April 22nd - 26th

Engineers’ Week, an event sponsered by E-council is held in the spring, it is celebrated annually by engineering students, staff, faculty,  and businesses. E-week gives students a chance to get together and display some of their engineering skills as they compete against their classmates. This year AIChE is proud to be sponsoring three events, first a Blood Drive with American Red Cross, second a Pringles mailing competition, and finally a DVD player Raffle. State Science Fair  May 10th - 11th

State Science Day is the pinnacle of student originated, inquiry-based science education for Ohio's students. The academic equivalent of a State athletic championship, and is sponsered by the The Ohio Academy Of Science. AIChE is looking for volunteers to help with judging this event and make departmental presentations. The Coordinator for this event is Christine Reinhold. Please contact her to sign up.

Get on the Ball  May 18th

Get on the Ball! is a sand volleyball tournament sponsored by Chimes Junior Class Honorary. With all proceeds benefiting Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Columbus! Last year, Get on the Ball! raised over $1500 for Special Olympics of Ohio. This year, they have expanded the tournament from 32 to 64 teams, in the hopes of doubling the charity contribution. AIChE is sponsoring one team of six players so if your interested please email our treasurer Nihar Patel.

Spring Picnic June 7th

The spring picnic is a dynamic event which honors graduating seniors, and involves the faculty, staff, students, and industry. Come and join us for for some softball, sand volleyball, basketball, and some great food. Location and time TBA. (Spring Picnic 2001 Pictures)

Senior Banquet  June 13th

The 2002 undergraduate chemical engineering student’s senior banquet will be held at Villa Milano on June 13 of 2002.  The banquet is intended to honor the graduation of students graduating spring, summer, autumn of 2002, and winter of 2003. All chemical engineering students, faculty, staff, family and friends are welcome to attend. Senior Banquet Info.

Spring Intramurals

AIChE will be sponsoring three teams that are competing in soccer, softball, and sand volleyball. The soccer team is an all men's team and the team captain is Nathan Clevenger. The Softball team is coed and the team captain is Rick Wentling. Finally the Sand Volleyball team is also coed and the team captain is Andy Loth.  So if your ready to get out of the computer labs and into the sun, join up for one of these teams. And if your a professional, great, or if you have no skill at all, just pretend you do and play. Contact Andy Loth regarding the details.
